This series of paintings had their inspiration from a tree that overhung a lake at Sheffield Park, Sussex. It was an ancient tree and had only a few leaf covered branches but it presented a truly magical shape. From the drawings and photos I took that day, I started to work on some studio paintings and found that they developed from representation to abstraction. From the 'Tree of Life' painting came the idea that all these paintings should have a link with the idea of the creation of life on Earth. Using watercolour I think has given a particular life and vitality to this series.
